This week for That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It I'll be telling you who I think the winners will be at One Night Stand.
Before I discuss the matches I think it should be noted that there was just a PPV last week and I don't see how the WWE thinks people are going to spend another $40 for another PPV. Besides it not being logically to think people will spend $80 in two weeks for wrestling, it also doesn't seem like there's really a reason to have another PPV. The card is basically just rematches from two weeks again and if my predictions for those rematches are correct then the results will be the same as the results of Judgment Day. The point is there are too many PPVs and the WWE might want to consider having a few less PPVs. Some people can't spend $40 for every PPV and it also makes the PPVs less important because PPVs don't seem like much of a special event when there is a PPV every few weeks. Despite PPVs not seeming as important as they once were we all know as long as Vince is making money from them there won't be less PPVs. That being said let's get to some of the matches.
RVD/Randy Orton in a Stretcher match was announced for the PPV and long time ECW fans or if you've seen the Blood Sport DVD you know that Van Dam was involved in a great Stretcher match with Sabu in the original ECW. If you're reading this column you're probably an internet wrestling fan and you've probably read the numerous rumors regarding RVD's future in the WWE. Some sites are reporting that ONS will be RVD's last show for the WWE under his current contract but those same sites reported that RVD was given an early release a few weeks ago so it seems like only time will tell if RVD will remain on the WWE roster. RVD obviously hasn't been getting any type of push in the WWE but Van Dam doesn't have any right to complain because he ruined his opportunity to be champion because he made dumb decisions. If RVD does in fact leave the WWE after ONS I wouldn't look for him to jump to TNA anytime soon because past history will tell you even though RVD risks injury to entertain the fans he considers wrestling a business and TNA might not be willing to offer RVD the amount of money he would want to sign a contract. The past history I'm talking about is when RVD got on the mic at Barely Legal and said he only wrestled at the PPV to showcase his own skills to get more money. RVD leaving will pretty much prove that the ECW brand flopped and it might be a wise decision for the WWE to try to get RVD to renew his contract. The concussion storyline might be a way to explain RVD leaving the WWE but it might also be a way to give the WWE time to negotiate for RVD to renew his contract. I'll pick Orton to win the match because as in the case with the the HBK feud, I think Orton will defeat RVD to help give him a push to a main event spot to eventually feud with John Cena for the title.
The tables match might be the only trace of extreme seen at the PPV and it's kind of funny that CM Punk and The Sandman are on the same team for the match. The Sandman smashes a beer can over his head for his entrance and CM Punk is alcohol free. The WWE creative team at it's best and if you think about it these two should be involved in a feud not on the same team. I've mentioned it before that the WWE could have done alot more with the CM Punk heel turn and this is one of the feuds there could have been as a result of the Punk heel turn. A CM Punk/Sandman feud could have been a good feud but they are on the same team at the PPV. I'll pick Punk, Sandman, and Dreamer to win the match because Punk, Sandman, and Dreamer have all lost matches the past few weeks on the ECW T.V. show so it seems like it might be a good chance for the team to win a match.
The Ladder match could be the match of the night and it has the potential to be one of the better matches in the WWE so far this year. Both of these teams are great and I expect it to be a great match. I'll pick The Hardys to retain the titles because I think the Hardys' title reign is being used to help stabilize the tag division on Raw so I expect the Hardys to have the titles atleast a few more months. The World's Greatest Tag Team have always been great and it's good to see they are finally getting some what of a push. Charlie Hass has alot of wrestling ability and Shelton Benjamin is probably the most under rated and under used wrestler on the WWE roster. The only thing Benjamin might be lacking is some charisma and mic skills but if the WWE used managers the way they did years ago Benjamin could be a major star. I definitely think it would be cool to see the feud continue after the PPV.
Melina v.s. Candice Michelle in a pudding match...we are all winners in this match.
I don't expect the cage match to be much more then the terrible World Heavy Weight title match from Judgment Day but you can't expect much from a Batista match. What you can expect is Batista's variety of moves that include a punch, kick. clothes line, spine buster, and power bomb. I think it's obvious that the title is staying on Edge and let's just all hope that Batista won't be in a title match at the next PPV. The match will probably be terrible but atleast Edge is getting a solid run as champion and it will be interesting to see who challenges for the title after the PPV.
I don't have anything to say about the Vince McMahon v.s. Bobby Lashley match because as I've said the past few weeks the storyline is ridiculous. It's so ridiculous that I'm not going to waste any time discussing the match but since this column is about picking the winners at One Night Stand I'll pick Lashley to win the title.
If you read my column about Judgment you know that I think The Great Khali main eventing a PPV is ridiculous and this is another match that is so ridiculous that I won't waste time discussing the match. The only thing I will say about The Great Khali is the WWE ruined his character because after having him destroy the Raw roster for months they made him look weak when he tapped out at Judgment Day. It will probably be a terrible match and I'll pick Cena to retain the title.
Overall I think One Night Stand will be an okay PPV and I think it's obvious that the stipulations have been added to help sell the PPV. The ladder match, the table match, and RVD v.s. Orton could be good matches but as I said about Judgment Day a PPV isn't worth $40 when The Great Khali is main eventing the PPV.
Until next week
