This week for That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It I'll be telling you what I think of attending Smackdown at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I got to the arena about an hour and a half before the show was scheduled to start and from the way the lines to get in were set up it was obvious that it probably wasn't exactly planned which gates were going to be open for the crowd to enter the building. I and the rest of the wrestling crew that was there with me were standing in line for Gate 3 when some arena worker showed up with a mega phone and informed some people to go to Gate 1 but after people had been in line they weren't going to go to the end of another line so the lines to get into the building were unorganized to say the least. A funny side note to waiting in line was that while waiting in line an older lady noticed that I was wearing a Kennedy T shirt and started yelling some vulgar things about Kennedy. The doors finally opened about ten minutes before the show was scheduled to start and when we finally found our seats the dark match had already started. I heard the ring announcer announce Eddie Colon and most internet wrestling fans know that he is Carlito's brother but most people in the section of seats where I was sitting didn't know who he was. Colon wrestled Shannon Moore and he seemed decent in the ring so it would be interesting to see if he gets signed. Before Smackdown started the crew of wrestling fans were talking about how many little kids were there and when you notice how many little kids are there with Cena and Mysterio T shirts you realize even though Cena gets booed that he's the champion because he sells T shirts.
Smackdown started with the usually fire works then it was Beniot/Hardy v.s. Finlay/MVP. Hardy got a major reaction during his entrance and after hearing the crowd cheering you have to wonder why he didn't get a better push before The Hardys won the tag titles on Raw. It was a good match and it seemed like Hardy might have been injured when he was leaving the ring after the match.
Jillan Hall v.s. Michelle Mccool was the terrible match you would expect and it seems like nobody cared that Mccool won the match. London v.s. Domino is a match that will probably be edited for T.V. because London messed up a few spots and after the terrible Hall/McCool match the crowd wasn't as into the action. The crowd seemed to wake up for Kane' entrance but once Kane's opponent, Dave Taylor got in the ring the crowd was mostly silent again.
The Chavo/Wang match was a good match but didn't get near enough time to develop into the great match it could have been. It seems like that's always been the case for the Cruiser Weight in the WWE, they don't get enough time for matches or to make the title important. It was one of the better matches of the show but it was given the least amount of time. The match wasn't announced as a title match and that alone proves that the WWE doesn't care if the Cruiser Weight title is important. A simple question sums up the state of the Cruiser Weight division in the WWE, When is the last time Chavo has defended the title?
The main event started and it was obvious that Pittsburgh didn't want Batista to win the title, as you could hear a chorus of boos during his entrance. There was also many boos when Batista had offense during the match and it will be interesting to see if Batista continues to be in the main event picture on Smackdown. When both wrestler's feet hit the floor I thought the match would be restarted and Batista would win the title. The match didn't restart and I was surprised to see Mark Henry return. The arena erupted when Edge's music hit and despite being one of the most hated heels on WWE T.V. Edge got a major crowd reaction when he went to the ring. After Edge won the title druids came to the ring and carried The Undertaker to the back. It seems like it was the only option the WWE has for the World Heavy Weight title because as I've said before Batista can't carry the brand and with Kennedy hurt Edge winning the title seems like a good decision for Smackdown. Overall Smackdown was a good show and it was cool that there were surprises in the main event.
Unfortunately, after Smackdown it went down hill with ECW and there were some people leaving during the ECW T.V. show. The show started with a less then great CM Punk/Marcus Cor Von match and after Punk was pinned you have to wonder why the WWE has decided to some what bury one of it's rising stars. I think the WWE really had a good storyline that could have benefited both Punk and the ECW brand as a whole when Punk turned heel but the WWE put the brakes on the feud before it could develop into a good storyline. The Sandman went past our section during his entrance and his entrance was probably longer then the match it self because The Sandman was squashed in about thirty seconds. It doesn't make sense that when the WWE is trying to improve the ECW brand that they sacrifice one of the wrestlers that symbolize ECW to try to push Snisky, who will probably won't become a top heel on any brand in the WWE. The main event was ridiculous and as I said before it's ridiculous that Vince is getting more T.V. time then the wrestlers.
Overall it was a good show with the surprises during Smackdown but if I had left before ECW I wouldn't have felt like I missed anything and there wouldn't have been as much traffic after the show.
Until next week
