With two huge pay-per-view events scheduled for May in De La Hoya vs Mayweather (May 5) and Chuck Liddell vs Quinton Jackson II (May 26), WWE might be looking at its lowest pay-per-view buyrate in years. Management and Creative had a 2 hour meeting at WWE HQ yesterday, and the general consensus is the WWE needs to put out a good enough card to compete with their rivals, and Judgement Day is now being called "Wrestlemania in May". Many big-time backstage figures like Stephanie McMahon, Dusty Rhodes, and Vincent Kennedy himself were all part of this meeting.
Our source at the meeting is telling us the Creative Team are seriously considering a John Cena vs Undertaker Main Event in a Title vs Title match, in which a title would change hands. Creative feels this would be a good way to create some interbrand rivalry again (in time for the joint brand PPVs) and to possibly even pave the way of ending the brand split eventually. Dusty Rhodes brought up turning Chris Benoit into a "super heel" to challenge the Undertaker. This idea was quickly shot down by Stephanie because she doesn't feel Benoit's mic skills are enough to really put his match over. Another idea was to have John Cena take on Bobby Lashley, along with the The Undertaker taking on Shawn Michaels. One final idea was to have John Cena take on Batista for the WWE title, but Vince thought big Dave was losing his connection with the fans, and this match wouldn't work.
This is where Dusty Rhodes came out and said John Cena was the one losing his connection with the fans, and needs to be turned heel. He feels that John Cena turning heel is exactly what the WWE needs to do an impressive buyrate for whatever match he would be participating in, but both Stephanie and Vince shot down this idea.
So right now the tentative "big matches" looks like this for Judgement 2007:
Title vs Title
The Undertaker vs John Cena
Ken Kennedy vs Shawn Michaels
TLC - World Tag Team Championship
The Hardyz (c) vs Edge/Randy Orton vs Sabu/RVD
