CZW returned to Smyrna, DE on a beautiful Saturday before a packed crowd for the 2008 Tournament of Death and an afternoon of ultraviolence, sun, beer, food, beer and carnage.
First Round
Pinkie Sanchez defeated Danny Demanto in a Tubes'n' Tables match
Sick spots of the show included a samoan slam by Demanto to Sanchez on a cluster of light tubes, Demanto rolling a bowling bowl which bounced and almost went into the crowd, a wheel barrel suplex by Demanto on Pinkie into light tubes into the corner.
Pinkie got the pinfall after an ass stomp then two, then three from Pinkie to Demanto thru a table with tubes in his chest. The table finally broke after three tries...sort of.
Scotty Vortekz defeated Mickie Knuckles after interference by Dustin Lee
Vortekz nailed Knuckles with a double knee with lighttubes to Mickie move in corner. Vorrtekz and Knuckles traded sick sounding headbutts that weren't the least gimmicked. Vortekz nailed Knuckles with a shot to the um...crotch, let's say. She later responded with a light tube shot to the balls. Along with interference with Dustin Lee, Vortekz hit his double knee spoits for the pinall.
WHACKS defeated Diehard Dustin Lee (replacing Brain Damage)
. The match opened with WHACKS jumping Diehard from behind with a big tube shot. Lee later responded with a slingshot double stomp fon WHACKS who was lying stomach on tubes. WHACKS pinned Lee after a botched powerbomb from WHACKS (his ankle went out in the middle of the move) into a barbed wire board that left Lee's long hair tangled in it .Post-match, Lee also looked to have a bad gash on his wrist.
In a falls count anywhere match, DJ Hyde defeated Andy Sumner
The match opened after Hyde cracked that "a wise man once told me that you don't turn your back on anyone you're afraid of", then turning his back on Sumner. Sumner responded by nailing DJ with a lighttube chair.
In one of the better spots of the day, Sumner perfectly nailed his trademark rolling slam thing to Hyde on the outside thru a lighttube covered ironing board. There was brawling in the crowd, parking lot, trees (yes, in the trees) with the payioffs spot being Hyde going off the roof of the former Bulldozers bar through a table (after sliding around on the roof through puddles from an overnight rainstorm)
Hyde finally pinned Sumner after a lariat with tubes attached to Sumner's face and neck.
In a tag team match, Nick Gage and Drake Younger defeated Devon Moore and Drew Blood, with both members of the winning team advancing
Demented spots of this one included: Gage smacking the hell out of Blood with a lighttube over the head followed by a backdrop on the guard rail (owwch). Blood later responded by giving Gage a rana thru a pane of glass on the outside. Meanwhile, Moore gave a
German through a pane of glass. The match ended with back to back panes of glass spots with Gage and Drake putting Moore and Blood the opposition through glass for the pinfall.
A thought: if CZW is trying to give this program legs, shouldn't they have found a way to have Team PWU go over in this one, say by having someone else run-in to help them win?
In a barbed wire madness match, Greg Excellent defeated Ryan McBride in a match that included Excellent powerbombing McBride on the guardrail, Excellent getting plowed through a barbed wire board and a piledriver off the top by Excellent through chairs for the pinfall.
In the match that has heat with a lot of online fans already (but not as much as I'd have expected from the live crowd) the scheduled match with Danny Havoc vs. Necrobutcher was turned into a match with a Necro Butcher "stunt double", after claiming he'd injured his knee while filimg. The stunt double was the stuntman for Ram in the local filming for "The Wrestler" movie, who wrestles in New York as Kid USA. The finish saw Nicky Benz "accidentally" hitting the stunt double with light tubes over the head meant for Havoc.
Second Round
In a light tubes, fish hook (yes, I DID say fishhooks) match Drake Younger and Scotty Vortekz in a double-elimination four-way over WHACKS and DJ Hyde
Younger came out with a fishhook-water jug bat and nails Vortekz with it. Vortekz gets one stuck in his back. Hope someone has had their tetanus shots. A lighttube cluster (what looked like 20 or so lighttubes jammed in a water cooler, attached to a broomstick) was used by DJ Hyde on WHACKS, who was still breathing after going off of a roof, by the way. Another rubber baseball bat (great sound effects) with more fishhooks attached is used by Hyde on WHACKS with some fishhooks stick in WHACKS's back. More fishhooks were used
The pinfalls saw DJ Hyde get a weedwhacker from the back (used earlier in the day to clean out overgrown grass and weeds on the site of the show) with WHACKS getting it from him and getting him in the stomach with it for the pin for pinfall number one. Younger then lift up WHACKS for a piledriver with Vortekz weedwhacks him while in mid air. Younger then piledrives him for pin number two.
In a Fans Bring the Weapons double-elimination match, Nick Gage and Danny Havoc advance over Pinkie Sanchez and Greg Excellent
The wrestlers looked like car crash victims after this one with Excellent sufferring a bad cut on his hand and Sanchez a bad cut on his back. Sick spots of the match include: Gage and Pinkie trade five or six light tube spots, Gage getting nailed with a thumbtack covered watermelon. Nick Gage gave Sanchez a top-rope powerbomb for the pin. Havoc pinned Excellent for the oher pin.
FINALS
In a no-rope barbed wire, 200 light tubes match, Danny Havoc defeated Nick Gage, Drake Younger and Scotty Vortekz.
Brutal spots (a brutal enough match physically that the referee was later throwing up) included Gage throwing Danny Havoc thru a too many light tubes (some hardware stores got REALLY rich) and a pane of glass. Each in turn got thrown into the no-rope barbed wire and lighttube ropes. Then there was the spot where, Vortekz kicked a ton of lighttubes into Younger's face. Younger responded by splashing Vortekz thru a barbed wire table.
The sickest spot of the match was Havoc taking a side suplex into the top rope of the barbed wire, then falling to the outside. His arm was gashed badly, to the point it had to be duct-taped closed, then later duct-taped again with a towel over it.
More sickness saw Younger put Nick Gage into the barbed wire several times leg first. A tease finish saw a not-so-injured Necrobutcher plow Havoc or Vortekz's behalf for a near-fall. After a ton of false finishes on each Havoc finally hits a samoan slam on Vortekz for the win.
Late in the match, referee Brian Logan started violently throwing up (whether from illness, injury or watching the day's carnage is not know). No word on his condition.
