"I feel we are very fortunate to be able to have a Samoa Joe farewell tour," ROH President Cary Silkin said. "It is hard to state the importance of Joe throughout ROH's history. He built this company. I am glad we are able to give him a proper sendoff. I think Joe's farewell tour will be very special for him, ROH and most importantly for the fans. You don't always get the opportunity to say goodbye the right way. I'm grateful we are going to be able to give Joe the respect he deserves. I know Joe is grateful that he will be able to show the ROH fans his appreciation for them on his way out. It is definitely going to be an emotional time for everyone."
Samoa Joe immediately made an impact in ROH with a legendary debut vs. Low Ki at the original "Glory By Honor" on 10/1/02. It was only supposed to be a one shot deal, but the second Joe came through the curtain after that match he was immediately booked as a regular. Less than six months later Joe would defeat Xavier at "Night Of Champions" on 3/22/03 to win the ROH Title. Joe then made it his mission to raise the prestige of the belt and make it an important title.
Joe was a success as his 21 month title reign made the ROH belt into a World Title and into one of the most sought after titles in the entire wrestling industry. Joe was a champion of integrity, skill and perseverance. New Japan even offered Joe thousands of dollars to hand the belt over, but Joe refused as he wanted to build ROH.
Joe's title reign will be remembered for his wars against Homicide and classics against CM Punk. Joe's matches against Punk raised the profile of ROH. Joe's hall of fame title reign saw him produce great match after great match against the likes of Bryan Danielson, AJ Styles, Doug Williams, Paul London, Christopher Daniels, Jay Briscoe and many others. When Joe finally lost the title to Austin Aries on 12/26/04 at "Final Battle 2004" it produced one of the most emotional and memorable moments in ROH history.
Joe added more gold to his resume when he won the Pure Title at "Manhattan Mayhem" on 5/7/05 from his protege Jay Lethal. Joe had successful defenses against James Gibson, Christopher Daniels, Jimmy Rave, Colt Cabana and Austin Aries before dropping the title to Nigel McGuinness at "Dragon Gate Invasion" on 8/20/05.
Joe's ROH career also saw him in memorable feuds and rivalries against Mick Foley, Bryan Danielson, The Rottweilers, Jay Lethal, The Briscoes, Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles, Austin Aries and CZW to name a few. The pinnacle of Joe's ROH in ring triumphs came when he wrestled Kenta Kobashi on 10/1/05 at "Joe vs. Kobashi" in Manhattan. It is consider by many fans and experts as the greatest match in ROH history.
Joe is currently involved in a feud against the Pro Wrestling NOAH organization. The feud will play out over Joe's final ROH dates including matches against Takeshi Morishima and Nigel McGuinness.
Joe's impact and importance on ROH will always be felt. Now we have a chance to show our appreciation. Joe promises to give the ROH fans something to remember him by during his farewell tour.
