Homicide defeated Bryan Danielson on 12/23 at a sold out Manhattan Center in New York City to win the ROH World Title. The emotional match saw Homicide pin Danielson with a lariat to one of the biggest crowd reactions in ROH history. The post match victory celebration lasted well into the night with fans refusing to leave the Manhattan Center to party with Homicide. We will have a look at this incredible scene in the next ROH Video Wire.
Homicide has already told ROH officials that he wants to defend the ROH World Title on every show. Homicide will make his first defense of the belt on 1/27 in Braintree, MA. We will have news of his opponent later this week in the ROHwrestling.com Newswire. Homicide and Julius Smokes have also been added to the 3/3 & 3/4 events in Liverpool, UK. Homicide has told ROH officials to send open contracts to offices all over the world including NOAH and Dragon Gate. Homicide will be a fighting champion.
Former ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson had an incredible 15 month reign that saw him defeat an all star list of competition. Danielson has been wrestling with two torn tendons in his shoulder since late August. He will now take an extended leave of absence from wrestling to let the shoulder heal. Danielson could be out anywhere from 3-6 months.
Jimmy Rave has caught the attention of Homicide. Rave made a challenge for the ROH World Title in NYC last Saturday. Homicide has stated that he is now the champ so Rave must have been challenging him. Homicide said that no one calls him out in his hometown. Homicide vs. Jimmy Rave has been signed for the 2/16 return to Manhattan and if Homicide is still World Champion the belt will be on the line.
The World Title win cements Homicide as a ROH Legend. Homicide has been with ROH since the very first show and has never missed any significant time. He is best known for being in some of the most intense and memorable feuds in ROH history against the likes of Steve Corino, Colt Cabana, Samoa Joe and CZW. However, Homicide was also frustrated in his quest to win any ROH belt. He put the pressure on himself last June when he stated that the would win a title by the end of the year or he would leave the company he helped build. Homicide came through on the last show of 2006 with one of the most dramatic matches in ROH history. It was truly a bittersweet moment for an athlete that has sacrificed for ROH.
The reign of Homicide will now begin and he is ready to take on all comers.
