The opening video aired. The theme song for ECW is actually perfect for what the brand is supposed to represent. Mike Adamle and Tazz welcomed us to the show and plugged tonight’s tag team championship main event…
1. Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne defeated Shelton Benjamin and Mike Knox in 4:24. Kofi has pyro now. Evan Bourne is Matt Sydal and they referred to him as Bourne while showing last week’s replay of Shelton powerbombing him into Kofi. He gave a promo before the match and he sounded like he had not yet hit puberty. He even said “wrestling” twice in the promo.
Bourne hit a reverse spinning thrust kick on Knox. Shelton threw Bourne into the ropes and he tried to do a Tajiri irish whip reversal. It almost worked. He hit a spinning heel kick. Kofi tagged in and Shelton tagged out. Kofi hit Knox with some kicks and Adamle said, “Nobody head kicks like this guy.” Tazz corrected him.
In a cool sequence, Kofi reversed an irish whip into a monkey flip, but Shelton landed on his feet. Bourne hit a sweet hurricarana. Adamle dropped a “Bourne Identity” line. I was surprised it took so long. Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise kick on Knox. Bourne, the legal man, hit a double stomp for the pin…
Backstage, a Kelly Kelly lookalike named Tiffany was waiting for Teddy Long. Armando Estrada came in and she reminded him he did not have a contract. Teddy came in and Armando kissed his ass. He said Armando would earn a contract if he could defeat Finlay tonight. Tiffany gave Teddy a “holla holla holla.”…
In case you missed it, Vince McMahon is giving away a million dollars every week. They recapped last night’s segments and put the winner’s names on the screen. By the way, the $2 winner was given a trip to New York…
2. Victoria defeated Kelly Kelly by referee stoppage in 3:56. I guess we could call Kelly a Tiffany lookalike. Adamle said the winner might get a chance to face Natalya. Victoria worked on Kelly’s arm and I swear she started crying. Was she selling? Kelly attempted to elbow her way out with a random backflip, but Victoria closelined her.
Kelly hit a hurricarana and a dropkick, followed by a victory roll for a nearfall. With Kelly standing on the apron and Victoria in the ring, Kelly did a handstand and attempted to pull Victoria over the top rope with a head scissors. Victoria pushed her off and Kelly was completely flattened face down on the floor. The referee began to count but then just stopped the match…
Oh crap, this “Did you know?” thing is here to stay. WWE can be seen in 465 million homes. It can be but it is not…
3. Finlay (with Hornswoggle) defeated Armando Estrada in :49. Estrada attacked Finlay but the referee pulled him off and then rang the opening bell. Finlay took over from there. He hit the Celtic Cross for the very quick victory…
After the match, Teddy Long came out and made another match between Estrada and Colin Delaney. Finlay hit Estrada with the shillegleh…
4. Colin Delaney defeated Armando Estrada in :07. Delaney hit a DDT while Estrada was on his knees for the win…
Teddy put Estrada in a third match, this time against Hornswoggle…
5. Hornswoggle defeated Armando Estrada in :07. Hornswoggle hit the Tadpole Splash for the win. After the match, all three danced around the ring until Finlay knocked Delaney out with the shillegleh. He laughed about it though, so it wasn’t a heel turn…
Back from commercial, Mark Henry stood in the middle of the ring to give a promo. He put the crowd to sleep last week. This week he kept it short and called out Big Show. After a slight delay, Show’s music hit and he made his way to the ring.
Henry said he wanted to be the first person to congratulate Big Show for winning a title shot against Kane at Night of Champions. He said he wanted to be the first to challenge Show if he won the title. He shook Show’s hand, but when he tried to walk away, Show pulled him back.
Show said he knew what Henry was trying to do and if he kept campaigning for an ass whooping, he was going to get elected. Funny line. Show said he would win the title at the PPV and it would not be luck, it was fact. His music hit but it was interrupted by Kane’s music. The ECW Champion made his entrance for the main event. Show and Kane had a brief staredown…
6. Kane and C.M. Punk vs. John Morrison and The Miz for the WWE Tag Team Championships. They replayed Kane’s beatdown at the hands of the tag team champions last week on the show. Tazz could not possibly put over the million dollar giveaway more than he is.
Punk and Morrison started the match. Those just tuning in may have thought this was a rerun from any ECW show in 2007. Punk hit a kick to Morrison’s ribs for a nearfall at about a minute. Miz tagged in. Punk beat him down at a medium pace. Punk slingshotted Miz to the floor. He then hit a plancha over the top rope onto Miz… [C]
[Overrun] Kane was working over Miz coming back from the break. Punk apparently hurt his ribs while hitting the plancha. Kane grounded Miz but Miz was able to mount him and land multiple left hands.
Kane turned the tide with a big boot, two closelines, and a sidewalk slam for a nearfall. Kane went to the top but missed the flying closeline. Miz hit a low dropkick and tagged in Morrison. Morrison locked in an extended rear chin lock.
When Kane powered out, Miz tagged himself in and the champs continued to isolate Kane. Morrison hit a missile dropkick for a one count. Kane finally was able to make the tag. Punk hit multiple knees on Morrison and sold his hurt ribs. He hit a snap powerslam but could not cover right away.
Punk applied a backslide on Morrison but Miz kicked Punk in the ribs hard. He then knocked Kane from the apron. Morrison hit the Moonlight Drive for the win. The champs celebrated as Kane and Punk looked on dejectedly…
